Sex During Your Period
Messy? Maybe. Pleasurable? Quite possibly. It’s one of those things that men are awkward about and women embarrassed by. But what are the pros and cons of having sex when you have your period?
Pros:
• Can alleviate cramps – The contractions that are caused by an orgasm can actually help alleviate period cramps. This is because they encourage the uterus to use up extra prostaglandins, hormones released by your uterine lining. These hormones otherwise allow the uterus to shed the menstrual blood, but also cause the cramps that you may suffer from.
• Less chance of pregnancy – The myth that it is impossible to get pregnant from sex when you are menstruating is just that – a myth. But it is much less likely that you will become pregnant because the lining which needs to be there to catch the fertilized egg is in fact being washed away in your period.
Cons:
• Mess – Sex during your period can be messy. There are several ways to make it less messy, such as using a diaphragm or a women’s condom, which will help to catch most of the blood during sex. But let’s face it, there is still going to be a bit of a mess. Try layering towels underneath you to soak some of it up, and lie on your back to slow the flow of blood.
• Lower libido – Although some women find this time of the month to be their horniest, some of you won’t feel like sex at all. If you still want to give it a go, buy Womera or Sure Romance which will help increase your libido, and make sexual arousal easier.
• Sensitive cervix – When you have your period, your cervix is more sensitive, so your partner will have to be more careful than usual. Having said that, sensitivity can be a good thing, enhancing your pleasure and allowing you to orgasm easier.
